Women’s Cancer Prevention Initiative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the burden of women's cancers in Nigeria. Our work focuses on providing accessible cancer screenings, health education, scientific research, and capacity building.

THINGS TO KNOW

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Nigeria, accounting for around 38% of female cancer cases. It is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, with a mortality rate of about 25.5 per 100,000 women.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in Nigeria aged 15–40. In 2020, it accounted for more than 16% of female cancer cases.

Human Papillomavirus

HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer among Nigerian women. Over 3% of the female population is infected with HPV-16 and HPV-18, which are deadly strains. While there is no cure, vaccination can prevent infection.
